PLAY

'Our society has become increasingly complex, but there remains a need for every child to feel the sun and wind on his cheek and engage in self-paced play.'

What is Wild Zone? …

The Wild Zone is an environmental play project run by the North Somerset Play Forum where groups of children can explore and play freely in a natural environment.

Wild Zone playworkers care about children's play and feel that, in today's social climate, it is important to give children the opportunity to experience freedom and some choice and control.  A variety of activities are on offer in the woods and children can choose whether they want to do those, or simply play freely.

Children of all ages are warmly welcome, so do contact us if you would like your group to visit the Wild Zone.  Also, please let us know in advance of any special needs or ideas that your children may have and we will do our best to accommodate them.

The Wild Zone is not just a place, but also a set of ideas and activities, which can happen anywhere where children play.  We can take children to other outdoor environments, such as the beach or fields - and we can bring the Wild  Zone indoors to your group during the winter months.

Since the above was written, our Better Play funding has ended and we have been unable to find further funding, so we are sadly no longer running our Wild Zone project. However, we are still sometimes able to arrange to take clubs out into the 'wild', or bring some of those activities to you, so do contact us if you are interested.

Activities include -
Freeplay
Den Building
Campfire cooking
Bug hunts
Fantasy quests
Woodland Badges
Musical instruments

Free play -
Encouraging children to  explore and  feel confident in the outdoor environment so that they are able to  play freely, making choices and decisions for themselves.

Forest School -
A programme of activities
which take place in an outdoor environment,
designed to build confidence and self esteem.
